WoS Advisory Council

The Write on Sports Advisory Council constitutes a cross-section of the community, with special emphasis on technology, nonprofit fundraising and finance, and organizational strategy. The Advisory Council serves the Write on Sports Board of Directors and its President to expand ITS organizational capacity, reach, and impact.

CHRISTOPHER BECKER: Chris brings over 20 years of domestic and international financial sector organizational development and human resources management experience.

ROSE CALI: Born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut, Ms. Cali has been a resident of New Jersey since 1973. She graduated in 1980 from Montclair State University, with a degree in anthropology (magna cum laude).

She devotes her time as a volunteer in leadership and philanthropic roles primarily in education, arts, and human services. Ms. Cali has been a member of Montclair State University Board of Trustees since 1991 and in 1994 became co-chair of the university's first capital campaign and serves on the committee of a Second Century capital campaign for the university, which raised $60 million. In 1997, Rose founded and was the first CEO of the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center.
 
Previous career experiences include historical site research, volunteer services coordination, and public relations. Recent volunteer involvement included participation on the boards of the Liberty Science Center, the Montclair Public Library Foundation Advisory Board, and Chair of the Board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson, and Union Counties. Presently, Ms. Cali serves on the Arts Education Committee of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and is a trustee of the Montclair Art Museum.  She also works with the New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education, Newark Mentoring Movement, Montclair Film Festival, Reach Out Montclair, and the Italian American Forum.

SUSAN F. HALL: Susan F. Hall, MPA has over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector.  As Principal of SFHConnections, Ms. Hall currently provides Interim Executive Director services to The Enrichment Community Center of Paterson, NJ.  She most recently served as Program Officer for the Heisman Trophy Trust. In addition, Ms. Hall has held several senior positions at non-profit organizations in the New York Metropolitan Area and has been recognized for her achievement in youth development. Her expertise includes: change management, organizational restructuring, program design and evaluation and fund development.

A native of Paterson, New Jersey, Ms. Hall has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and holds a Master of Public Administration from New York University’s Robert Wagner School of Public Policy. Ms. Hall has participated in several Fellowship programs and is an Advisory Board member to Something Different After School and Sustainable Health Enterprises (SHE).

DEBORAH KAYE: Deborah brings over 20 years of not for profit experience in a variety of roles including: legal counsel, nominating committee member, founding member of various committees, board member, Chairman) with over several business and financial industry not for profits.  In addition, Deborah brings over 35 years of experience as business counsel to broker-dealers, banks, hedge funds and other financial divisions to major global financial institutions.

DOUGLAS LAVANTURE (Chairman): Douglas Lavanture brings deep experience in organizational strategy, development, and data analytics to help guide the organizational structure, student success tracking, and technical development for Write on Sports.  He is currently a Business Operations Director for Bloomberg Global Data, having worked for the company for seven years.  Douglas is also an avid golfer and badminton player; he is President of the Badminton Club of the City of New York, the world's oldest contiguous badminton club, founded 1878.  He earned his undergraduate degree in English from Princeton University and has an M.A. in mathematical finance from Columbia University.
