WoS Board of Directors

WoS is governed by an eleven-person board of directors drawing from the ranks of education, philanthropy, business, healthcare, law and sports media. Its members are:

STEVEN BECK: Steve, with 30 years of financial industry experience, is a Managing Director at Norfolk Markets following tenures at Deutsche Bank, Nomura and Salomon Brothers. Steve’s passion for child advocacy is illustrated in his founding, with his wife Lauren, of People against Childhood Epilepsy in 1996.

CHRIS BROUSSARD: Chris is a nationally acclaimed NBA analyst at FOX Sports. He joined FOX from ESPN where he made frequent appearances and contributions across its programming as “NBA Insider.” His sports journalism career started in 1990 at The Plain Dealer in Cleveland where he covered the Cleveland Cavaliers. He joined The New York Times in 1998 and covered the New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks and the NBA, generally.

DR. ADA BETH CUTLER: Ada Beth brings over 25 years of education experience to WoS, including her tenure at Montclair State University as Dean of the College of Education and Human Services and currently as a Distinguished Professor of Education. Her career includes teaching in New York City and serving as principal of a K-8 school in Rhode Island. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Governing Council of the National Network for Educational Renewal and previously chaired the Higher Education Taskforce for the New Jersey Department of Education. She is the author of articles and book chapters on teacher learning, school-university partnerships and education policy.

DEV GANDHI: Dev, who has 10 years of legal and financial experience, is the International Business Manager and Chief Operating Officer of MUFG Securities’ Capital Markets group. Dev serves as President of the Yale Club of New York, the largest university-affiliated club in the world.

JOHN D. GOLDSMITH: John, who serves as Write on Sports’ Corporate Secretary, is Shareholder of the law firm Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney PC. He advises large public and private organizations, and individuals and family-held businesses, on business structural, corporate, contractual, merger and acquisition, real estate, tax and environmental matters. He serves on the board of directors of several New Jersey non-profit organizations including as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Partnership for Maternal & Child Health of Northern New Jersey.

PJ JOHNSON: PJ is Managing Partner and Founder at Riverside Strategic Communications, a public relations firm specializing in the financial industry. His 30 years of marketing and communications experience includes establishing and directing the corporate communications functions in the Americas for Mitsubishi UFJ Securities (USA), Inc. and Nomura.

PETER KING: Peter is Senior Writer at Sports Illustrated, Editor of TheMMQB.com and author of its renowned weekly Monday MorningQuarterback column. A regular contributor to NBC’s Sunday Night Football on NBC, he has had previous roles with ABC’s Monday Night Football, CNN’s NFL Preview and HBO’s Inside the NFL. Peter’s sport’s journalism career started in 1980 as a sports reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer and he subsequently covered the NFL for Newsday. In addition to being awarded three Emmy Awards, Peter has authored six books, including the acclaimed Football: A History of the Professional Game.

LOUIS LaSALLE: Lou is Senior Vice President, Corporate External Affairs at RWJBarnabas Health. His work includes development of corporate cooperation for community health efforts. He is instrumental in developing strategic corporate alliances for community health and wellness. His community philanthropy includes service as President of the Essex County Parks and Foundation and Chairman of the Livingston and Millburn-Short Hills chambers of commerce.

DAVID W. LOHUIS: David brings over 30 years of financial experience to WoS, including his current role as a Managing Director at Barclay’s Capital where his serves as Global Head of Fixed Income Financing and as a member of its Prime Services Executive Committee. He was previously Managing Director at Lehman Brothers.

ROBERT G. OTTENHOFF: Bob, who serves as Treasurer of WoS, is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. His 25 years of nonprofit experience, includes serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of GuideStar and Chief Operating Officer of the Public Broadcasting Service. He serves in an advisory or board member capacity for several organizations, including Inspirit Foundation, Link TV and the Netherlands-America Foundation. Bob founded WBGO-FM, based in Newark and is frequently published and quoted regarding nonprofit and philanthropic issues.

BYRON YAKE: The WoS’ President and Executive Director, Byron founded WoS in 2005 after more than 30 years of journalism and business management experience. His career began as a weekly newspaper editor and officer in Western Pennsylvania. He later joined the Associated Press in Pittsburgh where he covered sports and news for several years before being appointed as head of its Pittsburgh bureau. He later became the New Jersey Chief of Bureau and then served for 20 years in manager and executive roles in the AP’s New York Headquarter, including Sports Editor, head of Human Resources and Assistant to the President.
